The course “Drugs and Shariah, Psychological and Legal Effects” was established in the presence of Dr. Dhiaa Aziz, president of the central committee for counseling, and managed by Assist. Prof. Dr. Haider Nazim Aziz Al-Muhanna, dean of the engineering college, as well as the counseling unit within the faculty of engineering. Other lecturers attended the meeting included Dr. Hamid Jassim Al-Gharabi, PhD candidate in Holy Quran sciences from Kerbala University’s College of Islamic Sciences, and Dr. Amer Jabr Al-Haidari, Psychology, University Kerbala, Faculty of Medicine. Additionally, there were other participants at the session such as Sandes Qasim Mohammad – Master of Law – Kerbala University, Faculty of Engineering, as well as different instructors and students.
The course also covers the mechanisms involved in drug treatment as well as the causes of drug addiction and psychoactive drugs. In addition to the legal and religious consequences the majority of the course focuses on avoiding the use of drugs that contain addictive substances and on preventing children and adolescents from using drugs that contain narcotic drugs.
